In Loving Memory of Treven Govender
Anand Govender, fondly known as Treven or Chevy was born on 19 July 1979, the second son of the late Ronnie Govender and Mrs Kogie Govender.
From a young age, he was full of mischief and energy often finding himself in a bit of trouble but always in a way that brought laughter and joy to those around him. He carried that playful spirit into adulthood, a part of him that never faded and helped shape him into the remarkable man he became.
Treven endured heartbreaking losses in his family. In 2001 he lost his baby brother, Rishalan in a tragic car accident - a heartbreak that affected him deeply. Yet despite his grief, he remained strong for his family. Another tragedy struck in 2006 when his father, Ronnie passed away. Through these hardships, Treven carried resilience, strength and a quiet courage that inspired everyone around him.
After surviving these family trials, Treven married his childhood sweetheart, Losh on the 2 March 2008. Their journey began thanks to his younger brother, Shalan who played a pivotal role in their love story. It was Shalan who introduced Treven to Losh at the Firwood Road Library, recognizing they were meant to be together. Shalan even made Treven promise that he would one day marry Losh - promise that became a beautiful reality.
Treven’s greatest blessing came on 10 November 2011 with the birth of his beautiful daughter, Leriska Kyara. From that moment, she became the center of his world and his pride, his joy and his heart.
Treven was an extraordinary father in every sense. He was hands-on, present and deeply involved in every part of his daughter’s life especially late-night feeds, bath time, nappy changes and all the little everyday moments that truly matter. He didn’t just love her, he poured himself into her life giving her strength, guidance and unconditional love. In the 12 years they shared, he filled her life with enough love and life lessons to last her a lifetime.
Treven also shared a special bond with his beloved furbaby, Abby - his “third wheel,” as he jokingly called her. Abby brought a kind of unconditional love into his life that he had never experienced before. Every day when he came home, she would greet him with overwhelming excitement - jumping, spinning in circles and covering him with kisses, demanding his full attention. That simple, pure love brought him so much joy and happiness.
Treven was a man of truth, strength and character. He was straightforward, honest and had a no-nonsense attitude. He said things exactly as they were whether you were ready to hear it or not. He could be grumpy and moody, stubborn and fiery but at the same time, he was fun, full of life and deeply loving. He had a strong fighting spirit and would stand his ground until the very end. That was Treven - real, unfiltered and unapologetically himself.
Some of the most cherished memories of Treven will always be of his incredible sense of humor. He had a way of making jokes and finding laughter in the most unexpected and often inappropriate places whether during prayers, at temples, weddings or even funerals. That was just who he was - bringing lightness into even the heaviest moments.
Professionally, Treven’s career was marked by years of dedication and loyalty at DSV Air & Sea. He built not only a strong professional reputation but also meaningful and lasting friendships. He was respected for his commitment, reliability and the genuine connections he formed with those around him.
After undergoing a successful triple heart bypass on 28 March 2024, Treven sadly passed away on 9 April 2024, leaving an unimaginable void in the hearts of all who loved him.
Yet even in his absence, Treven’s presence lives on, in the love he shared with Losh, in the laughter and unconditional love with Leriska, in the joys and happiness of Abby, in the cherished bonds with his mother, Kogie and his in-laws, Linda and Sivan and in the memories created and in the lessons he left behind. He continues to watch over Leriska, guiding her, protecting her and giving her the strength to carry forward his legacy.
Treven’s life was a testament to love, resilience, joy, laughter, and family. He will always be remembered as an extraordinary father, loving son, devoted husband, loyal brother, cherished friend, and a man whose spirit touched everyone who knew him.
Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever Treven. 🤍
